It’s important to be in a career that not only pays the bills, but also provides personal fulfilment. Many social service professionals find their career deeply rewarding because they get to support and empower people who experience health and environmental challenges. Our guest will chat about her journey as a social services professional.

About our guest

Tahira Kassiem loves her career. Her journey into social services started with her academic studies at the University of Cape Town where she completed her Bachelor of Social Sciences degree, specialising in Social Work. Since then, she’s attained several other qualifications to support her career growth, including a Diploma in Human Resources Management & Training, an Advanced Certificate in Employee Assistance Programs (EAP), certification as an Occupationally Directed Education, Training and Development Practitioner (ODETDP), and more recently, an Advanced Certificate in Coaching.

She’s been in the social services sector for many years and started her career journey as a Social Worker. Since then, she’s gained experience in various organisations and held several positions. Some of these positions include EAP Practitioner, Public Education & Volunteer Manager, and Project Officer. Today she works as a Professional Officer who specialises in Social Development & Early Childhood Development.

When she’s not making the world a better place through her work, you’ll find Tahira taking regular walks, indulging in mosaic arts and crafts, enjoying motivational talks focused on the law of attraction, and treating herself to fig picking in Wolseley. As a cat lover of note, she has a few of her own fur babies, and as far as her bucket list goes, she has her sights set on doing salsa dancing, piano lessons and art classes.
